Know Your Block is one person's project. I'm Gabe Peck, and I build and run it from Columbus. There is no support team, just an inbox I check most days. The address is gabe@knowyourblock.org. If you'd rather not open your email, there's a short form that lands in the same inbox.
I read everything. I answer most of it, usually within a few days, and faster if you've found a mistake. The rest of this page is about what to write, so your message lands with the right context on the first try.
What to write about
A record that looks wrong
If the map shows a complaint at the wrong address, in the wrong
category, or twice, tell me. Include the address as it appears on the
site, the record number if you have it (they look like
26470-03431), and what you think is wrong. I check it
against the city's original record and fix what is mine to fix.
If the city's own record is wrong, I'll point you to the right office. I can't edit public records, and I wouldn't if I could.
Property owners and managers
If you own or manage a property on the map and something about how it appears worries you, write to me and I'll look at the specific records with you. I fix display errors, and I try hard to make every page say what a complaint is and isn't: a report someone filed, not a finding that anything was wrong.
What I won't do is remove accurate records because someone asked. Every complaint on this site was filed with the City of Columbus and is public whether or not this site exists.

Questions
If you have a question the site doesn't answer, or you need something from me, ask. I've spent a long time inside this data, and I'm happy to explain how a number was made, what it does and doesn't mean, or where to look for something the site doesn't cover.
Researchers, organizers, and community groups
Tenant groups, civic associations, students, nonprofits, and anyone else doing serious work on Columbus housing: use this data. I can share the joined dataset (about 75,000 complaint records with locations, categories, severity scores, and dates, from January 2025 on) as a CSV, or cut it the way your question needs: one neighborhood, one issue, one time window, one type of building. If you're presenting to a civic association or a council committee and need a clean chart, ask. This is what the project is for.
Bugs, ideas, and everything else
If something broke, tell me what you were doing, what phone or browser you were on, and what you saw. If you have an idea for the site, I want to hear it, especially if you're a renter who wanted something the site didn't give you. And if you just want to say the site helped you pick an apartment, that's a good email too.
What I can't help with
- A problem at a property right now. I don't take complaints and I can't send an inspector. Report it to Columbus 311. That call is what creates a record and gets someone out to look.
- Changing an official city record. The complaints here are the city's records, not mine. I can fix how this site displays one; only the city can change the record itself.
- Legal advice. I'm not a lawyer. If you're in a dispute with a landlord, start with Landlord won't fix it, which points to the county's free self-help resources.
- Landlord references. I won't tell you whether a landlord is good or bad, and the site doesn't rank owners. It shows what was reported, address by address, and you draw your own conclusions.
The data, in short
For anyone deciding whether it's worth asking:

- Cost Free. The records are public and so is the work
- Not on offer Rankings of landlords or companies, and any claim the records don't support. A complaint is a report, not a finding

Frequently asked questions
How do I contact Know Your Block?
Email gabe@knowyourblock.org, or fill out the contact form, which goes to the same place. Know Your Block is built and run by one person. There is no phone number. Every message is read, and most get a reply within a few days.
How do I get a wrong record fixed?
Email the address as it appears on the site, the record number if you have it, and what you think is wrong. Display errors on this site are checked against the city's original record and fixed. The complaints themselves are public records held by the City of Columbus, so a request to change or remove the official record has to go to the city.
Can I get my property removed from the map?
Not if the records are accurate. Every complaint shown was filed with the City of Columbus and is a public record whether or not this site exists. Errors in how a record is displayed will be fixed on request, and the site says plainly, everywhere it can, that a complaint is a report, not a finding of a violation.
What if I have a question the site doesn't answer?
Ask. I read every message and answer most of them. If you have a question about the data or the method, or need something the site doesn't give you, email me and say what you're after.
Can I get the raw data?
Yes. The joined dataset covers more than 75,000 City of Columbus code-enforcement complaints at 38,000+ addresses from January 2025 to the present, with coordinates, categories, severity scores, and dates. It's available as a CSV on request, or as a custom cut by neighborhood, issue, time window, or building type. Researchers, tenant organizations, community groups, and students are welcome to ask.
Can Know Your Block help with a problem at my apartment?
No. I don't take complaints and can't send an inspector. Report the problem to Columbus 311, online, in the 311 app, or by phone at 614-645-3111. That call creates the official record and gets code enforcement involved.
